Digimon is a term consisting of mysterious digital lifeforms that reside in a parallel universe called the Digital World.
Biology
They are a very diverse group of creatures, many species of which mimic the appearance of real animals.
Digivolution
Similar to Pokémon, to which they're often compared, they can mature in an evolution/metamorphosis-like process called "Digivolution". However, unlike Pokémon, they have more than three or four stages, and can revert back to previous stages.
